on a small island, in a big island is a short film that poetically looks into a family history of coming and going.
In her artistic practice, Kamali van Bochove continuously explores her identity in relation to that of her family. By interweaving (archival) film and photography, she seeks to understand the shape of distance — rooted in a (family) history of diaspora. She’s interested in what role, value and use images have within this gap and how they can compose proximity.
